Buenos dias! We are Alex and Megan. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us a little better.
We met in March of 2017 through an online dating app. Yes, we are one of the success stories! We lived two hours away from each other at the time, so our first few dates were marathon dates that were eight hours long. We wanted to keep finding out more about one another. Alex was attracted to Megan’s smile, fearlessness (she demonstrated Zumba moves in the middle of a parking lot), and attentiveness. Megan was attracted to Alex’s humor, kind brown eyes, and thoughtfulness.
Families were introduced on the third and fourth dates, which made our bond even stronger. By the end of April, Alex said, “I love you,” and Megan said, “Thank you!” It’s the longest-running joke in our marriage. Luckily, it only took a week for Megan to realize and proclaim her love. Now, when Alex is feeling snarky, he will respond with a ‘thank you’ to Megan’s ‘I love you.’ We both end up smiling at the memory. We were married in November of 2017, and are still smiling and laughing to this day.
Meet Alex and Megan
We live in a peaceful and comfortable townhome. It is three stories and has four bedrooms. Right now, we use one of our spare bedrooms for an office, one for a guest bedroom, and the last is a kids’ playroom. It is filled with crafts, books, and sunlight. We can’t wait to turn it into a nursery. Our main floor is our favorite area. It contains our living room, dining room, and kitchen. We love to host parties, so it is nice to have an open space where everyone can gather.
Our neighborhood is amazing! We have lived here for two years, and everyone has been friendly and welcoming. One thing that we love best is how many kids live here. There are four different playgrounds all within a block from our house. On any given day, you’ll find children riding bikes and scooters, selling snow cones and cookies at front yard stands, and using sidewalk chalk on the driveways.
We love living in Utah County. It is a good mix of city and country life. We are within ten minutes from shopping areas as well as mountains and Utah Lake. It is the perfect place to raise a family because of all of the outdoor adventures and activities that are right outside our door.
Our Extended Family
We are blessed to have a loving and supportive extended family. We live close to many family members on both sides. We enjoy visiting, talking on the phone, and having video calls with our family that live farther away.
Megan has three siblings that each live within 20 minutes of our home. We often have family dinners with them, frequently babysit their young kids, and cheer them on at sporting events. We are the proudest aunt and tio on the sidelines for soccer, swim meets, and dance competitions. The rest of Megan’s family lives in Illinois. We visit them for holidays and special occasions. Megan’s mom and stepdad also come to Utah multiple times a year. Family dinners with Megan’s side of the family are always welcoming, loud (there are a lot of us), and entertaining.
Luckily, both of Alex’s brothers live within an hour of our home. We love to cheer on our family at plays, concerts, soccer games, and baseball games. A few weekends a year, we spend some time in Northern Utah with his mom and stepdad, and Alex’s dad visits from Mexico at least once a year. Family dinners with Alex’s side of the family are always filled with yummy food, lively music, and much laughter.
What Led Us to Adoption
Before we got married, we had a conversation about growing our family through the blessing of adoption. After multiple doctors’ visits, we discovered that it would be the only way we would have children. Since both of our hearts have been open to adoption for years, it was an easy decision. We look forward to welcoming children to our family through the path of adoption.
Cooking is one of our favorite pastimes. Megan is a master baker, and Alex is a whiz with Mexican cuisine. One of our nieces lovingly calls Alex’s rice “ramen rice” and begs him to teach her the recipe! We love cooking together and then sharing our food with friends and family.
We are not usually competitive people...until it comes to games! We especially enjoy card games but are happy playing almost anything. Some of our favorites are Skull King, Skip-Bo, Monkey Bridge, and Five Crowns.
We love to travel together. So far, we have visited a few areas around Illinois, including Chicago, St. Louis, and Northern Illinois. We also have been to Disney World, Disneyland, and on a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. We definitely consider ourselves Disney fans! We can’t wait to share the Disney magic with this child. Our next adventure will hopefully include visiting family and cultural sites in Mexico.
Alex was born in Mexico. His parents wanted a better life for my brothers and me, so they moved us to Utah. It was a difficult move at first because of the language barrier. We also lived in humble circumstances to make ends meet. When I look back on my childhood, though, I only have good memories. Plus, I am now bilingual. I use both languages daily and hope to teach Spanish to this child.
Our Promise to You
We can’t wait to be parents! We know that we can provide a safe, loving, and nurturing environment. We would prefer an open or semi-open adoption but are flexible, depending on your preferences. We want to always be open and honest with this child and let them know that it was love that brought them to our family. We wish you clarity, peace, and comfort as you navigate through this journey.
