About Us
Hello! We are Barret and Emily. We graciously thank you for reading our profile. We hope that it helps you learn more about us as prospective adoptive parents.
We are an online dating success story! In 2008, Barret had graduated from college and was working full-time. Emily was a college senior and student teaching at the time. We were busy, but we knew we were ready for a relationship. Barret found Emily’s profile, and Emily couldn’t help but fall for Barret, or maybe it was his dog pictured alongside him on his profile. Either way, after a few dates we knew this was love and we have been together ever since.
Barret loves to plan surprise dates for Emily. The most memorable date was when he picked her up with tickets to see a production of her favorite musical. We enjoyed the rest of the evening eating delicious food and listening to jazz music.
Barret proposed over a view of Boston Harbor, and we were married in 2014. We always knew that we wanted children. Emily has family members who were adopted, and after struggling with infertility, we knew that we were being called to adopt. We look forward to the day when we welcome a baby into our family through an open adoption.
MEET EMILY
I consider myself lucky to have found Emily. I could tell from the start that we shared many of the same values. What I love most about her is her gift with children. Her true passion is teaching – not only elementary subjects, but how to become well-rounded, respectful, and caring human beings. I’ve witnessed this in the classroom, but also with our nieces and nephews as well as the kids at our church. As a result, her students go on to achieve great things and continue to visit her years later.
Emily puts 100% into everything she does, and it shows with the number of accomplishments she’s achieved, from numerous theater awards to teacher of the year nominations. Emily is also active in multiple committees at school, church, and throughout our community.
Nothing is more important to Emily than family. Watching her interact with children makes me excited to partner with her to raise a child of our own. I often fantasize during our drives home from family functions: a sleeping – or more realistically crying – baby in the backseat. And when I look over into Emily’s eyes, nothing makes me more excited for that day to arrive.
MEET BARRET
Barret is dedicated, compassionate, and determined. He is a wonderful graphic designer and photographer who works for a company who values him. He is an amazing husband, son, brother to four sisters, and uncle. Seeing him care for our nieces and nephews is an absolute joy. He is patient helping them with crafts, energetic when playing with them, and nurturing when consoling them. He is quick to help with whatever they need, from a bottle to a diaper change.
Barret loves mountain biking, the outdoors and overcoming challenges. When he first told me about his annual biking competition, I assumed it was simply a bike race. What I learned was that it was so much more. He would be biking for a purpose – to raise money for children’s cancer research. Having taken on this challenge, he has raised thousands of dollars to truly make our world a better place. This describes Barret perfectly: a selfless, caring person committed to doing good.
In every facet of life, Barret gives it his all. He makes everyone feel important, respected, and valued. However, his priority is always his family. As a father, he will be whatever the child needs: a protector, a cheerleader, a provider, a companion, a teacher, and a role model.
