Hello, we are Brett and Megan! Thanks for taking the time to learn about us. Here’s our story…
In the fall of 2015, we were both busy within our careers and trying to figure out how to meet the right person. Like many, we signed up for Match. Within 24 hours of Brett resubscribing and Megan forgetting to unsubscribe, we were matched! Soon we were messaging and getting to know one another. Although we had totally different careers (Brett works in IT while Megan is a special education teacher), we found common ground within our values.
After a handful of months dating, our time together shifted to helping to support Megan’s mom, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. Movies and bowling dates soon turned into to grocery shopping and hospital visits. Though challenging, we learned that we were meant to be together and had found our person. During her last days, Brett was able to ask for Megan’s mom’s blessing and show her the ring picked out for our engagement. We were engaged in November of 2016 and married November of 2017.
As we began our marriage, we started trying to grow our family. After two miscarriages, we realized we were being called in a different direction. We felt at peace letting that process go and moving in the direction of adoption. Our dreams of parenthood continue! We truly believe there is a plan for us through adoption, and we cannot wait to see what God has in store.
When Brett was a kid, he was a sponge for information. He was imaginative and creative, and dreamed of someday becoming a writer. He wanted to create stories, poetry, and a world that someone could immerse themselves in. However, in elementary school, he found his true passion. When Brett was just 10-years-old, his family got their first computer and his life changed forever! He was so intrigued by how computers worked and how they could be modified or upgraded.
Now, Brett wasn’t your typical high school computer nerd. He wrote songs, poems, played guitar, and enjoyed watching and playing sports. However, while writing and other creative pursuits got Brett through some rough times in his teenage years and early adulthood, his love for technology eventually took over and led him to a career in technology.
After working for several different companies, Brett landed his first career position for a cloud services company. In this new role, Brett was finally able to put his writing skills to use while still working with computers. He is not a technical writer, but he knew how to write clear, simple documentation that helped others use the technology.
At his core, Brett loves helping people. For that reason, he can’t wait to help a child grow to be the amazing person that they are destined to become. It’s been a dream of Brett’s to be professionally where he is today, but the only thing sweeter than that is to finally be a dad.
Growing up, Megan was imaginative and creative. Her best friend lived next door and they were always making up games with her younger brother or the many kids in their neighborhood. She enjoyed pretending, whether it was playing teacher or office. She especially loved using office supplies her parents would have around the house.
Megan’s mom was very musical and passed that talent down. She took piano and voice lessons, and sang in various choirs. She was always learning music. Once she started to share that talent with others, she wanted to study vocal performance and become an opera singer. However, during her senior year of high school, Megan auditioned for a vocal college program and realized that making a career out of singing would take away the joy it brought her. Luckily, during that time Megan was in an internship with an early childhood special education program that helped her see that was her true calling.
Megan’s minor in college was in integrated creative arts, which seeks to engage students in the creative process by connecting various art forms with other subject areas. I know that Megan cannot wait to share the love of exploring different art forms with a child. She has wanted to sing, play instruments, paint, build, and dance with a child for as long as she can remember. Megan will certainly be that mom who helps build sprawling forts in the living room, takes the child to museums and concerts and finds unique items to make things with!
We bought our home brand new in 2018, and it has all the advantages of a new build. Even though we weren’t searching for something new, we happened upon it when it was near completion. The main floor is an open floor plan which we love because when we have family and friends over it gives us a sense of togetherness. When it’s nice out, we enjoy grilling and being on the deck that Brett and his dad built. It’s very peaceful to be outside playing lawn games or entertaining as our house backs up to protected wetlands.
The first thing we noticed about our new neighborhood was that there were many children playing outside and riding bikes up and down the streets. The neighbors organize various events like food trucks, parties, and other events. During the pandemic, we all celebrated the 5th graders, 8th graders, and seniors with a graduate parade. One of the neighbors even deejayed!
The best part of our town is how close it is to larger cities, while still having small town charm. Our grocery store carries great local produce and is not far from a few farms and orchards. We have taken advantage of nearby beaches, lakes, and parks just minutes away. We also love being close to family. We’re right in the middle for both sides, which means we get to spend lots of time with our loved ones!
We both come from tight-knit immediate families. However, some of our most fun memories come from times spent with relatives that we don’t get to see too often. Brett has uncles who live out of state, but whenever they’re around it’s always a blast! Megan has many stories of “cousin-palooza” where cousins from her large family get together and get crazy! They have inside jokes of things that happen during these times that make their bond as strong as ever.
Brett’s parents have been grandparents for almost two decades, but they are very excited about the idea of having a new grandchild to spoil! They will have plenty of cousins to play with as most of Megan’s friends and family are either having babies or already have children of their own. We love getting together for family game nights and holidays. There’s a fun energy that can be found in both of our families and new generations will continue that tradition of togetherness and love.
Throughout the year, we’re always on the go – attending birthday parties, visiting friends, going to game nights, volunteering with our church, and attending Sunday services. But we do have some consistent traditions that we love, and cannot wait to share with a child.
Winter: We spend time indoors playing board games like Mexican Train Dominoes or card games like Phase 10. Our favorite family tradition in Winter is spirit hunting, where we drive around and look for Christmas decorations as this is one of our favorite holidays.
Spring: We always have a couple of outdoor projects, like the yearly planting of the flowers in our front garden and/or expanding on our landscaping. This time of year is also the beginning of camping season which is something our family really enjoys!
Summer: It’s all about the BBQ! Brett takes pride in cooking, and it shows when he puts in the effort for smoking the perfect rack of ribs or a good brisket. We enjoy trips to the beach, soaking in the sun, and playing outdoor games like bocce ball and corn hole.
Fall: This is one of the best times of the year for both sides of our family, which is football season. Brett and his dad are HUGE Detroit Lions fans. We also enjoy picking fruit and visiting orchards while sipping hot apple cider on a crisp afternoon.
We would like to share our sincerest thanks for your time reading our profile. Also, thank you for the blessing of bringing a beautiful life into the world. Being parents is all we think about. We cannot wait to be called to love a child and grow our family.
Our promise, if chosen as the adoptive family, is to give your baby unconditional love and support. We promise to nurture them and offer a life that is fulfilling with joy and happiness. The level of openness we decide together is going to be one rooted from honesty and fairness. We will always remind the child of their birth parents and the selflessness it took to make this decision.
There are not enough words to describe how much this means to us. Both of us are humbled to receive the most precious gift one can provide. We wish you the best of luck and guidance as you navigate the right path for you and your baby. God bless you.
