Hi! We are Dustin and Kayla, and we thank you for taking the time to look over our Parent Profile. We are excited to start the process of our second adoption and we hope that by reading this book, you will be able to learn a little bit more about us. We first met on a blind date, set up by Dustin’s brother, who worked with Kayla. We fell in love quickly and soon realized that we were meant to be together. Dustin asked Kayla to marry him on Valentine’s Day in 2012, and we were married in June.
We decided to start our family a year into our marriage. When we found out we were unable to conceive a child and after months of trying, we decided to take a couple of months to ourselves and find a house. While doing that, we talked about our options with starting our family and decided that adoption was part of our Heavenly Father’s plan for us. A few years later we welcomed our daughter into our home through adoption.
We have a beautiful, four-bedroom brick house with a huge yard in Northern Utah. Our small but perfect little garden on the side of our house is where we grow our favorite veggies; tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, and squash! During the summer, our backyard is full of laughter and the smell of delicious hamburgers. Dustin is quite the grill master.
Kayla has had a blast decorating our house, and she has done a fantastic job. It is not uncommon to catch Kayla in the kitchen with her cheeks covered in flour or her fingers sticky with caramel from baking. She has loved having a baking buddy but can’t wait to add another! Our daughter has already claimed that the new sibling will be sharing her room with her.
Our neighborhood is quiet and small, but that does not mean we do not have some adorable neighbors that are looking forward to playing with another child. We are within walking distance of an elementary school and plenty of parks, and cannot wait to share our favorite playground with a new sibling!
We are very close with both of our families. Some of Dustin’s siblings live just a couple of minutes away, and we get together for dinner almost once a week. Grandpa and Grandma also live within a couple of minutes of our house, and both of them cannot wait to welcome grandbaby number twenty into their hearts. We are glad to have family so close; we always have plenty of hands to help!
We love to visit Kayla’s family every other week for a couple of days (usually the weekend.) They don’t live too far away, and we like to spend as much time with them as possible. Kayla’s parents have only three grandchildren, so they are very excited to welcome another child into the family.
We have an adorable Yorkie named Booth. He’s a little over eight years old and weighs just a couple of pounds. We all love his spunky attitude. Booth loves playing fetch and hide and seek with our daughter. We also have an all-black cat named Toothless. He is a cat who thinks he’s a dog. He has the sweetest personality and is so incredibly tolerable to all children. Both pets have the cutest relationship with our daughter.
Both of us have fond childhood memories of Disneyland, and to this day, we still enjoy anything Disney. We have made it a goal to go to Disneyland every few years. We cannot wait to bring another child along and see their face light up when they finally meet Mickey Mouse for the first time.
We also love just to drive to the California coast and enjoy the sun or go camping in our trailer with our families. Being outdoors is something that we both enjoy, whether it be taking Booth for a walk in the park or swimming in Dustin’s father’s pool. We also enjoy going to Kayla’s parent’s cabin. It’s only an hour away, and it makes for a perfect weekend getaway. There, we take the ATVs out to see all the wildlife or go fishing in the pond. Fishing is something that Dustin has taught both Kayla and Rosie to love, and we can’t wait to teach another child the art of fishing.
Thank you for taking the time to look at our book, and thank you for bringing this beautiful baby into the world, for being brave, loving, and nurturing. Being parents has always been a dream of ours, and we cannot wait to be parents to another child. If chosen as adoptive parents, we promise that we will love him/her with all our hearts and give them all the love, support, and education (and cuddles) that they can handle.
Our families’ hearts are already opened and excited to love this child as much as we already do. We want what’s best for you and your baby when it comes to the openness of adoption. We will always remind the child of the great sacrifice that their mother made for them so that they could have the life they deserve.
Our love and hopes for you and your baby will continue to grow. We want to wish you all the luck and happiness with your decision on what’s best for you and your baby.
