We attended the same church as children and have known each other since we were 11 years old.
We began dating our senior year of high school and continued dating throughout college. We got
married right after graduating from college.
Through these many years, we have almost reached the milestone of living more of our lives
together than apart. During our time together we have both changed and grown closer. We are
supportive of each other, and our love has become more mature and intentional. We are so
blessed that we are still each other’s best friends, we are committed to serving each other, and
that we push each other to grow in character.
Kaitlin is kind, thoughtful, and wise. She is a problem solver and can accomplish anything she
sets her mind to. She is incredibly organized and keeps our home running smoothly. She is an
excellent cook who loves to make delicious meals and incredible baked goods. She is faithful
and her willingness to encourage me in my weaknesses has helped to shape me into the man I am
today.
Kaitlin is creative and intentional in her time with our kids. She comes up with new activities,
takes them to the library weekly, and finds new parks around the city to explore. She is the
comforter the boys want whenever they are sad or hurt. She reads endless amounts of books with
patience and develops ways to promote learning during play. Our children enjoy time with their
Mama and are always excited to learn the activities she has planned.
Matt is incredibly smart, a hard worker, and always willing to serve his family. He is a seminary
student and works in engineering, yet always has time for church and family. He loves the Bible
and hopes to be a theology professor to teach others about God’s Word. He enjoys sports and
always cheers for the University of Michigan. He often makes jokes and does silly things to
make the rest of us laugh. Matt has loved Calvin and Hobbes comics since he was a child and is
enjoying sharing this with our kids now.
Matt is high-energy and very active with our sons. They like to wrestle, run down the hallway,
and play sports outside. He reads books to them and adds funny voices to the characters. He
consistently comes up with new ways to use up their energy. The boys anxiously wait by the
front window for their dad to get home each day. As soon as he comes through the door they
pounce on him and rope him into their play.
Landon is a shy and intelligent little boy. His brain works at a million miles an hour, and he asks
questions all day long. He loves going to school, reading books, drawing with crayons, and
running as fast as he can.
Eli is loving and goofy. He loves to be snuggled and to make the rest of us laugh. His favorite
things are reading books, parking all his toy cars in a line, running around with his brother, and
learning new words.
We have a ranch home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a play area, a grassy fenced-in
backyard, a sunroom, and a home office. We have invested a lot of time into making our house a
home that we are proud of. Everything is on one floor, allowing our kids access to the whole
house. We are thankful for the space for grandparents to stay when they visit and space for us to
work from home. We enjoy snuggling by our fireplace and watching movies together. Our
backyard provides a wonderful place for safe play, imagination, and exploration.
Our neighborhood is diverse, and we often meet new friends at our local parks. The city is full of
parks, but we favor the one we can walk to from our house in warm weather. We have great
private schools and plan to pursue that option for our kids’ educations. The seminary gives us
access to a pool and splash pad. We are also members of our local zoo and often meet friends
there to see the animals.
Kaitlin’s parents (Grammie and Papa) live in Michigan. They are retired and visit us frequently.
My sister lives out west in Colorado with her dogs, and we see her a few times a year. The rest of
my extended family lives throughout the country, and we see them for family reunions every few
years.
Matt’s parents (Grandma and Grandpa) also live in Michigan with their chocolate lab. They are
near retirement and make trips to us often. Matt’s brother (and his wife and sons) lives out west
in Washington, and we look forward to their visits. The rest of his extended family are also in
Michigan, and we connect with them when we visit around the holidays.
We began talking about adopting a child before we were married. From a young age, we have
both worked with children in many capacities and know we can love any child unconditionally.
We have often said, “Why wouldn’t we adopt?” Adoption is a beautiful way to love our
neighbors and display how God adopts us into His own family.
If our family seems like the right fit for your little one, we promise to love them with our whole
hearts. We promise they will always know how brave, loving, and sacrificial
you are. We promise they will grow up in a home filled with laughter, forgiveness, and good
food. We promise they will enjoy winters snuggled up close and summers exploring the
outdoors. We promise to strive to learn who God has made your child to be and support them in
following that path.
Above all, we promise they will hear the Gospel often and learn of the sweet, gentle goodness of
the Lord.
